Bakery Café by Day, Restaurant by Night

Text and photos Timo Huttunen

Bakery Café by Day, Restaurant by NightDuring the daytime, the restaurant space operates as the popular bakery café Karjase Sai.

Originally opened in the industrial surroundings of the Põhjala factory area, the bakery café Karjase Sai has expanded its operations. The bakery now shares its premises with Café Tempo. The café is open from 9:00 to 17:00, after which Café Tempo opens its doors at 17:00.

Karjase Sai is more than just a bakery. It is a project started by Kenneth Karjane and Eva Kõrvas. This artisan bakery is the perfect place for anyone who loves authentic sourdough bread and mouthwatering pastries. The name Karjase Sai is a play on words referring both to the owner’s surname and the Estonian expression for “shepherd’s bread”.

Freshly baked pastries should be enjoyed with top-quality coffee.

The selection includes sweet and savoury pastries alike. Prices for baked goods enjoyed on-site range from €3.20 to €5.00.

“Our most popular sweet product is the almond croissant, while among savoury items our best-seller is the breakfast roll served with butter and cheese from Kolotsi Farm,” says the café salesperson.

To accompany the treats, Karjase Sai also serves top-quality coffee.
