Easter Egg Hunt at Estonian Open Air Museum

Whether you’re a churchgoing person or not, everyone enjoys a good, old-fashioned Easter egg hunt, and that’s exactly what the Estonian Open Air Museum will have for the public on Easter Sunday, 5 April this year. The grounds of the museum will also have a holiday-themed orienteering game, and the various locations around the premises will host different activities, such as egg-dyeing.

If you want to try the orienteering game, as for the checklist at the ticket office, and see how many of the Easter symbols you can find throughout the various houses of the Estonian Open Air Museum. Try and guess what they mean, and if you get all the correct answers, you’re in for a treat at the Kuie school, one of the buildings in the park. If you get stuck, keep an eye out for the Easter bunny, who might be able to give you a hint.

The village square will host fun events and games, including on the village swing. If you don’t know what this is, it’s a massive wooden swing that can hold the entire family. Kolu Inn will offer festive dishes, as well as a special dessert based on a recipe that is older than a hundred years. There will also be a large cauldron of boiling water for visitors to dye eggs in using traditional colouring methods using onion peels.

At the Härjapea farm you’ll find the main event: the Easter egg hunt! Find as many colourful eggs as you can, and let the hostess know how many, and what colours. Just remember not to actually take the eggs, leave them for others to find as well.

There will also be several other activities for guests of all ages, ranging from birdwatching advice, to a small group of various animals, such as goats and geese. And naturally: bunnies!

The museum opens at 10:00 on Easter Sunday, and the Easter programme will begin an hour later, at 11:00, when the buildings open. The programme will last until 16:00, and the museum park itself will remain open until 19:00. The family ticket is €30, adults €14, and the discounted ticket for students and retirees is €10. Entrance is free if you have: a Tallinn card, also available as an app; a Museum Card; or an Annual Entrance Pass, available here.

And finally, the full programme is available here.
