Tallinn’s Seaside Filling Another Hole

For decades hundreds of thousands of tourists have been arriving at Tallinn’s ports, and their very first impression, apart from the skyline of the Old Town in the distance, was abandoned land. Weeds, broken asphalt, and not exactly the safest feeling if it’s at night. Slowly, very slowly, this coastline has been developed while the city expanded in other directions, away from the sea. The past few years have finally seen the city’s desire to clean itself up around the ports. The fully revamped Reidi tee park with its cycling and walking paths. The gorgeous roof promenade at the Tallinn Cruise Harbour by A-Terminal. The Old Harbour with its retractable pedestrian bridge. Even the scandalous and still incomplete Porto Franco zone.
Many passengers still had to walk the long distance past an abandoned field used as a parking lot surrounded by an ugly fence across the street from the Nautica Mall. The City of Tallinn has just issued a building permit to finally develop this choice piece of coastal land. It will be called the Talsinki Quarter, and will essentially consist of two large buildings, and everything around them fully modernised.
Talsinki Quarter is a real estate project by U.S. Real Estate, the same developers behind the nearly complete Rotermann Quarter and the brand new Golden Gate building across the street from where Talsinki will be. The architectural design is by the Arhitekt11 and HGA architecture bureaus, who were also behind the Patarei Sea Fortress restoration. Construction will be carried out by Bildgren Ehitus, who are responsible for several major construction projects around the city.
Talsinki will consist of 138 residential flats, 32,000 meters of leasable space, and an underground garage with parking for 400 cars. It is unclear when precisely construction will start, but the deadline for completion is 2028–2029, in stages.
