The Year Ends on a Musical Note in Two Historic Buildings

The turn of the year is a natural moment to pause, look back, and make room for new thoughts. This reflective atmosphere is perfectly captured by the Year-End Music Salon, or Aastalõpu muusikasalong, which will be held this year in two historic buildings in Estonia.

The concerts will take place in Tallinn’s Town Hall on 29 December 29 at 19:00, and at the Tartu City Museum on 30 December at 19:00. Last year, the Tallinn Town Hall was filled with listeners, including music lovers from Finland.

The artistic director of the concert is violinist and conductor Maano Männi, who has also successfully organised year-end music salons in Vaasa for four consecutive years. In Tallinn, the concert additionally offers the opportunity to experience music in the distinguished setting of the 700-year old Town Hall. After the concert, audiences can spend some time exploring the Town Hall’s historical interior.

This year, Männi’s duo partner is the Helsinki-based, internationally acclaimed pianist Irina Zahharenkova, often described as a “poet of the piano”. Her playing combines subtle tonal nuance with deep musical understanding. Zahharenkova has enjoyed successful concert tours in the United States, Germany, and Belgium.

The programme is built around beloved classical composers. Works by Frédéric Chopin, Claude Debussy, Fritz Kreisler, Toivo Kuula, Erik Satie, and Tõnu Kõrvits will be performed. Tickets for the New Year’s Music Salon at Tallinn Town Hall can be purchased here, and tickets for the Tartu concert here.
