For several years now, Alestorm have ruled the world of pirate metal, and their concerts are truly unforgettable. In mid-December, this legendary Scottish band will perform in Tallinn’s Helitehas with Lutharo and Roses of Thieves.
Alestorm’s beginnings go back roughly 20 years to eastern Scotland, the small town of Perth, where a group of friends decided to form an epic metal band whose songs would focus on pirate themes. Performing under the name Battleheart, the group released a few demos and began to attract attention. First from local audiences, and soon from the well-known label Napalm Records. It was then that the band changed its name to Alestorm and signed a multi-album deal with the Austrian record company.
Over nearly two decades, Alestorm have grown into a giant of pirate metal. Their career includes highly acclaimed albums, tours with bands such as Turisas, Sabaton, Dragonforce and Eluveitie, as well as appearances at the world’s biggest metal festivals, including Wacken, Bloodstock, Graspop and Sweden Rock. This June, the Scots released their eighth album, “The Thunderfist Chronicles”. It largely delivers what the quintet has made fans expect: energetic, riff-driven songs, along with surprises such as a cover of Nekrogoblikon’s “Goblins Ahoy!” and a massive 17-minute closing track titled “Mega-Supreme Treasure of the Eternal Thunderfist”.
Lutharo is a band formed in Canada in 2014. Their first two EPs, “Unleash the Beast” and “Wings of Agony”, were released in 2018 and 2020, respectively, and their debut album “Hiraeth” was released in 2021. On these releases, the band demonstrated a strong ability to combine different metal subgenres, such as heavy, power, thrash, and many others. Last year, the quartet released their second full-length album.
Roses of Thieves is a Hungarian band formed in 2023. Their modern approach to heavy music combines influences from electronic music and folk metal. Last year, they released their debut album.
