Tallinn’s Warmest Christmas ViewpointThe magnificent Christmas tree at St Nicholas Church is a highlight of the year.

Located in Tallinn’s Old Town, the St Nicholas Church and Museum invites visitors this autumn and winter to experience the treasures of Toledo Cathedral. The museum is hosting the exhibition “Dives Toletana”, which presents invaluable works from the heart of Spanish religion and art, from Toledo. On display are rare textiles, paintings, and liturgical objects from the 11th to the 16th centuries, including works by El Greco and José de Ribera.

The museum also features masterpieces of medieval art from Estonia—Bernt Notke’s “Dance of Death”, a carved altarpiece made in the workshop of Hermen Rode, as well as the silver treasures of guilds, craft associations, and the Brotherhood of the Blackheads. In addition to the art, the tower of St Nicholas Church is open to visitors. From the top, a breathtaking view opens up over the city of Tallinn and the sea. From the sheltered and heated viewing platform at the windows, the landscape can be admired in any weather. Every Saturday and Sunday at 16:00, organ music fills the museum.

“Dives Toletana” brings the treasures of Toledo Cathedral before the viewer’s eyes.

At Christmastime, the museum takes on an especially atmospheric appearance when the interior design company Shishi decorates the museum’s striking Christmas tree. This year’s decoration theme will remain a secret until the tree’s official unveiling on the first Sunday of Advent, 30 November. The Christmas season and its related programme will continue at the museum until 7 January 2026.

When visiting St Nicholas Church, be sure to also stop by the nearby Adamson-Eric Museum. Located on a romantic staircase street in the Old Town, this cosy museum presents works by the legendary Estonian modernist Adamson-Eric as well as changing exhibitions. Tip: with a combined ticket, entry to both museums is cheaper. The museums are open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00.
