Enjoy spring in the Vanemuine Concert Hall

Two concerts featuring musicians from the theatre’s orchestra will be held in the large lobby of the Vanemuine Concert Hall in Tartu. The spring concerts will be held on Tuesday, 11 March, and Saturday, 3 May, both at 19:00.

The first concert in the lobby concert series will be held on Tuesday, 11 March. The programme will take you on a musical journey that begins with 18th-century classicism. The Vanemuine Orchestra String Quartet will perform Joseph Haydn‘s The Imperial Quartet, which the composer created at the request of the Austrian imperial court. The work later became the Austrian national anthem for over a century.

The concert will also feature Alexander Borodin‘s String Quartet. More detailed information about the works can be found on the Vanemuine website. The concert will feature Federico Mechelli Uhl (1st violin), Marta Mutso (2nd violin), Teresa Järve (viola), and Camillo Cabassi (cello).

The May concert will feature soprano Karmen Puis and pianist Ele Sonn from the Vanemuine Opera, who will interpret compositions by Kurt Weill and George Gershwin, as well as pianist Jaanika Rand-Sirp from the Estonian National Opera.

Soprano Helen Nõmm and harpist Kai Visnapuu will perform English folk songs arranged by Benjamin Britten, as well as songs from the composer’s song series, A Birthday Hansel. Britten composed the work to the lyrics of Robert Burns in 1975 to celebrate the birthday of the mother of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
