Tallinn Chamber Orchestra brings baroque music to life

The Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will presents a programme of baroque music at concerts held on Friday, January 31 at 7 pm in the House of the Blackheads, in Tallinn, and on Saturday, February 1 at 6 pm in St. Lawrence Lutheran Church, Kuressaare.

The orchestra will be led by charismatic Swedish violin virtuoso and baroque specialist Peter Spissky, known for his dynamic interpretations of early music. Spissky emphasises that baroque music must be performed with vitality to truly resonate.

“I would argue that baroque music is a dance, a movement together. It presupposes freedom on the part of those who take part in the dance. We find such freedom in folk music, pop music and jazz. But, just as I cannot imagine anyone waving their arms in front of Charlie Parker, The Beatles or a gypsy band, there is no point in trying to control the interaction between performers of Handel or Bach music. Let them dance…,” says Spissky.

The programme includes works by Purcell, Handel, and Vivaldi.

More information is available on The Tallinn Chamber Orchestra official website.
