The Fifth Flavour

The Fifth Flavour

Brought to you by the owners of Leib Resto & Aed, Umami takes the same passion for good food and wine and has a little a fun.

The beautiful yard and design of Umami is worth the trip itself to the restaurant, located a little ways from Tallinn’s city centre. The house is designed in a 1930s villa style, furnished with retro Scandinavian furniture. Even the speakers at Umami have been refurbished. “We are playing with vintage”,told Kristjan Päeske,co- owner of Umami.

The house itself is from the 1930s and Kristjan explained that the owner had always wanted to turn it into a restaurant, something that suits the house so well now.

Umami is the fifth taste. It’s those flavours like mushroom, tomato, and Parmesan. “At Leib we focus on 100% local cuisine, but at Umami we can have a little fun with it”, explains Kristjan. “We still use local ingredients whenever possible, but the menu incorporates more international cuisine”.

Come for lunch or dinner. Umami has weekly lunch specials that are always interesting and tasty. There are also a few vegetarian dishes, and Kristjan assures that some other dishes, like the curries, can be made veggie as well. And as Kristjan is a sommelier, you can be assured of an excellent wine list.

In the summertime, the large backyard is open for probably one of the best outdoor dining experiences in the city. Inside, there is a ‘parents with children’ dining room, where kids will stay entertained in the playroom and parents are not too far away.

Kadaka tee 141, Tallinn
