Estonian energy company Evecon has purchased the mixed martial arts (MMA) league Raju and plans to expand its reach internationally. The upcoming competition, Evecon Raju 17, will take place on February 22, 2025 at the A. Le Coq Sports Hall in Tartu. The new owners plan to increase the league’s international presence by bringing in more foreign athletes, expanding broadcasts to other European countries, and enhancing its profile in global MMA.
“Raju will come of age in the next year with the 18th event to be held in the autumn; so, we have respectively established our goal of growing big. As a whole, we want to expand onto the international market. This means that we are involving ever more foreign athletes, with broadcasting due to reach other European countries in addition to those within our proximity,” said Karl Kull, CEO of Evecon OÜ. “We have successfully accomplished several major projects in the energy sector that might have appeared impossible at first glance, so I believe that we will be able to show the world the true extent of Raju.”
Ott Tõnissaar, the main organiser and CEO of Evecon Raju OÜ, emphasised the historic nature of this development in Estonia’s sports sector, emphasising the league’s long-standing reputation. He credited 15 years of dedication to building the Raju brand, which has already gained respect in MMA circles.
Three fighters from Raju have advanced to the UFC, including Bartosz Fabinski, who secured a UFC contract immediately after a Raju match in Estonia.
The league has outlined plans for events in 2025 and 2026, with competitions scheduled for February in Tartu and September in Tallinn. Since its launch in 2009, Raju has hosted 261 matches, including 65 professional bouts, and has welcomed fighters from across Europe.
Mixed martial arts is a full-contact sport where competitors aim to win through knockout or submission. Matches are held in an octagonal arena.
