Tartu Pride 2024 starts today

Estonia’s only Pride event will take place in Tartu this week (August 12-18). The event, which is part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024’s main programme, offers a week full of diverse activities including art exhibitions, film screenings, discussions, and workshops. The programme is designed to bring together the community, provide a platform for expression, and promote inclusivity.

The week starts with the opening of several art exhibitions, including a pop-up exhibit at Aparaaditehas and a croquis drawing event. Discussions will focus on issues such as Estonia’s first LGBTQ+ action plan and the representation of LGBTQ+ people in the country. A special Pride film screening and a literature event at Tartu Literature House are also scheduled.

On Wednesday, a new art exhibition will open at Mülä, and a discussion evening focusing on Finnish-Estonian queer relations will take place at Club Gutenberg. The Estonian National Museum will host a special event on Thursday, followed by a workshop at the Peemoti Centre.

Friday’s programme includes a LGBTQ+ city tour, more panel discussions, and a comedy show. The highlight of the week is Saturday’s Pride parade, which starts at Hurda Park and ends with an open-air concert at Town Hall Square. The concert will feature performances by local artists, followed by a picnic and a theatre performance at the Estonian National Museum.

The event concludes on Sunday with a city tour in Estonian, a drag brunch, and a workshop at the Peemoti Centre. Additional events include drag performances and parties throughout the week.

You can get more information about the event on the Tartu 2024 official webpage.
