Tallinn TV Tower celebrates its 44th birthday with a blues music festival

Tallinn TV Tower will celebrate its 44th birthday with good music as the four-day Pirita Blues festival starts tomorrow, July 11. The event is dedicated to Tartu, the European Capital of Culture 2024, from where almost all the performing musicians hail.

The festival’s concerts will take place in the garden of the Tallinn TV Tower. The outdoor concerts begin each evening at 7 pm and last until around 8:30 pm.

The opening concert on July 11 will feature internationally renowned Estonian blues guitarist Andres Roots. His music has been played on radio stations across five continents, and he has performed in the USA and most of Europe.

On Friday, July 12, the blues band Enn Vei, formed in 2015, will perform. The band members share a passion for the blues of the 1950s and 1960s. Their repertoire includes music by blues masters Jimmy Reed, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Little Walter, as well as later legends such as the Red Devils, James Harman, and Kirk Fletcher.

On Saturday, July 13, Cathouse Radio, inspired by the blues of New Orleans and Chicago, will take the stage. They add a unique twist to their songs with elements of rock, country, and punk.

The festival will conclude on Sunday, July 14, with a performance by the Finnish-Estonian band South of Savoy. The band features singer Krista Tiitinen, guitarist and singer Oskar Malleus, guitarist August Skjoldby, bassist Jaan Jaanson, and drummer Jeremia Kangas. South of Savoy’s music combines rock’n’roll, country, soulful blues, and rhythmic gospel.
