According to the latest population projections the population by Statistics Estonia, the population of the country is expected to fall to 1.2 million by the year 2085, this is despite life expectancy being predicted to increase.
According to the last population census taken on December 31, 2021, the population of Estonia is currently 1,33 million. Although this figure was 3 per cent higher than in 2011, the population of the country is expected to begin to fall due to low fertility rates and the increasingly aging population. Falling to 1.2 million by 2085.
However, based on the projection, life expectancy in 2085 will be 85.3 years for men and 90.9 years for women. This is a drastic increase on the current life expectancy in Estonia in 2024, which is 74.5 years for men and 83.1 years for women.
The projections were made by Statistics Estonia in consultation with Tartu University, Tallinn University, and the Ministry of Social Affairs.
