A festival of art films in a hidden paradise for artists in Tallinn

Many travellers have not yet found their way to the ARS art quarter located on the Pärnu maantee in Tallinn. However, it is worth marking it as a destination for your next trip, because there is a lot of art, handicrafts, exhibitions, and more on offer. ARS artists and companies also regularly organise various art courses for those who are interested. One of which is the annual Art Film Festival.

Today and tomorrow (April 10-11), the annual ARS Art Film Festival will take place. The event offers a unique opportunity to see the films of almost fifty artists on the big screen. The films last from a minute to half an hour.

The selection of themes and genres is diverse, and includes documentaries, narrative short films, animations, and a selection of films made by Estonian hobbyists in the 1970s and 1980s.

“Art film is a very special and experimental visual art genre that is mostly shown to a limited audience only in exhibitions and galleries. But they are also independent works of art, the viewing of which on the big screen opens up completely new layers. The stripped-down narrative, abstract point of view and conceptual approach are common in art films, and at the same time unusual for many viewers. They create unexpected experiences,” shared Indrek Köster, the Art Film Festival’s chief organiser.
