How good are you at skiing in the dark?

Ida-Virumaa’s Alutaguse Recreation and Sports Centre will host a cross-country skiing Marathon on February 10. However, the skiing event starts already on February 9, when a night marathon is organised. The race is part of the Estoloppet ski marathon series

Friday evening’s (February 9) night races start at 8 pm, and are run over 21 and 10 kilometers distances. Because only 200m of the course is lit by electric lighting, the race is a real experience. Along the trail there will be fire pits, and places where you can drink warm water.

The prerequisite to participate in the race is to keep a fully charged phone with you throughout, and the organiser’s phone number must also be stored in your phone.

On Saturday (February 10), you can choose from either the 43-kilometer or a 21-kilometer races. The start of the marathon distance race will be at 11 am and the half marathon at 12 noon. On the same day, there will also be children’s and youth ski races, participation in which is free.

All of the race routes run through the forests of Kurtna, Estonia’s largest lake area. The starting and finishing areas, as well as changing facilities, are located in the Alutaguse Recreation and Sports Centre.

You can register for the races on Estoloppet’s own website.
