For three evenings in a row this week, the city of Pärnu will be ablaze with light and sound for the annual ÖÖvalgel (“white night” in English) light festival. After the sun sets on Thursday, Friday and Saturday visitors will be able to see a number of stories told through light, video projections and live performances.
The light festival ÖÖvalgel has become an annual institution in Pärnu, fast rising to become the biggest cultural event in the city, despite it only returning for the fourth time this year.
The festival, which traditionally takes place during the last weekend of September, will see light theatre shows performed at various locations around the city. The shows, which always have a living person as the main character include the performance “Dear Moon” that depicts a person’s search for inner strength. The performance also includes music from the popular Estonian folk band TRAD.ATTACK!.
The full programme of the festival, which is the same on each night, is available on the official ÖÖvalgel website. Entry to the festival shows is free of charge.
