New observation deck and glass elevator have opened at Niguliste Church in Tallinn

The long-awaited glass elevator and new skydeck have now opened in the historic church tower of the Niguliste Museum in Tallinn’s old town.

The glass elevator transports passengers up three floors to the new observation deck, from which a unique view of the Old Town, Tallinn Bay and the rest of the city opens up.

The elevator and skydeck completed in conjunction with extensive construction work on the church are unique in all of Estonia. This is because anyone who wants can now reach the top of the church tower. The tower’s architecture and details can also be explored by going up the tower’s newly renovated stairs.

The construction works also brought with them changes to the permanent exhibition of the Niguliste Museum. On the different floors of the historical church, the Estonian Art Museum’s collection of medieval wood sculptures are also on display.

In connection with the reopening of the Niguliste Museum, a series of lectures will be organised, which will present the history of Tallinn’s cityscape, towers, church bells and the work of the Niguliste museum.

In addition, once a week there are tours of Niguliste’s secret passageways, where you can get to places that are usually hidden from guests. Thanks to the changes, the secret passage tours will also be extended to the stairs of the tower.
