An exhibition entitled “Image of a Woman” has opened at Narva Museum’s Art Gallery. The exposition is dedicated to the representation of women in European art from the 18th to the 21st centuries. Capturing women in many different roles, from ordinary women to perfect mythical creatures.
“Image of a Woman” presents a panorama of images of women in fine art from the 18th to the 21st centuries. With each era formulating and glorifying its ideal of a woman, we can assess how social events, everyday life, art and painting itself have affected women’s appearance and soul.
The exhibition, which is divided into 8 unmarked thematic parts (religious, historical, heroines of literary works, motherhood and living conditions, myths and allegories, muses and models, women of their era, and muses of the new era), allows visitors to independently explore how the image of women in art has changed over time.
“What do these images tell us decades or even centuries later?”, is the main question that the organisers of the exhibition ask.
“Image of a Woman” will be on display at Narva Museum’s Art Gallery until February 26, 2023.
