Statistics Estonia: Industrial production took a downturn in September

 

According to data just released by Statistics Estonia, in September, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 7.5 per cent at constant prices when compared with September 2021. Production fell by 7.6 per cent in manufacturing and by 27.1 per cent in mining. However, it increased in electricity production by 3.5 per cent.

“There was an increase in output only in the electronics industry and in a few engineering and machine-building activities, namely the manufacture of electronic products (18.1 per cent), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (11.3 per cent), and repair of machinery and equipment (14.2 per cent),” said Helle Bunder, an analyst at Statistics Estonia

Among larger industries, production volumes fell in the manufacture of wood (17.5 per cent), fabricated metal products (18.0 per cent), electrical equipment (3.7 per cent), and food products (3.1 per cent).

In energy production, compared with September 2021, the volume of electricity production (in megawatt-hours) increased by 22.1 per cent, while the production of heat decreased by 16.8 per cent.

Although production has taken a downturn, in September 2022, sales from manufacturing production increased by 9.0 per cent at constant prices year on year according to working-day adjusted data. Export sales rose by 9.7 per cent and domestic sales by 8.0 per cent compared with September 2021.
