Foreign tourists spent €320 million in Estonia in the second quarter of 2022

 

According to data from Eesti Bank, foreign tourists spent a total of €320 million euros in Estonia in the second quarter of this year (April, May and June). During the same three-month period Estonian residents took more than 700,000 trips abroad.

There has been a 537 per cent increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Estonia compared to the second quarter of last year. With these tourists spending a total of €320 million euros in the country during the months of April, May and June 2022.

Finnish tourists made up the largest portion of these visitors (40 per cent), with Latvians (16 per cent) and Germans (6 per cent) the next most common visitors. Tourists from outside the EU made up 20 per cent of all visitors. One in three trips to Estonia were day trips. 

Estonian residents have also been making more foreign trips, up 230 per cent on the same period last year. Despite more than 700,000 trips abroad, this is still 25 per cent lower than the same period in 2019 before the pandemic.

Finland and Latvia were the most visited countries by Estonian residents, accounting for 17 per cent and 13 per cent of all trips respectively. 80 per cent of all trips made by Estonian residents were within the European Union. The most popular non-EU destination was Turkey, which received 69 per cent more Estonian visitors than in 2019.
