The Estonian Weather Service has issued a warning for freezing rain for today (December 27). As a result, the Estonian Transport Administration (Transpordiamet) has issued a “very high risk” warning for slippery road conditions.
The Estonian Weather Service has issued a warning for glazed ice and gusty conditions across Estonia today. Glazed ice occurs when freezing rain or drizzle hits an already cold surface such as a road forming an extremely thin coating of ice.
As a consequence, extremely slippery conditions are expected on the roads around Estonia. With the Estonian Transport Administration issuing a “very high risk” warning across the country and urging drivers to use the roads with caution.
The slippery conditions will also be accompanied by gusty conditions nationwide with winds up to between 15 and 20 m/s. There will also be a transition from snow, through to sleet and rain as temperatures begin to rise above 0oC as the day goes on.
You can learn more about the specific forecast and warnings in your area by visiting the Estonian Weather Service website here.
