Saaremaa Peony Festival 2026—Peak Blooming Now

Saaremaa’s annual Peony Festival, held in the village of Pärni, is at its peak blooming period this week. This is a seasonal flower festival held in a commercial peony nursery. Visitors can choose from a massive variety of peonies, and experience the “changing landscape” as different sorts bloom at different times, depending on the week, or even day. There is also the possibility to buy dozens of varieties from the nursery.

As this is a month-long event with Midsummer’s right in the middle, this means you should be prepared for the traditional midsummer rain storms, so dress appropriately. With over 6500 flowers being grown for cutting, this annual opportunity to walk in a field of peonies with nearly unlimited colours is not something to miss. You can even go multiple times to see how it’s changed from day to day, depending on what’s blooming. Right now however is the peak blooming time.

Early peonies typically bloom from 5–20 June, mid-season peonies 10–25 June, and later varieties are from 20 June until early July. That’s why now is the best time to go. In addition to the flower exhibition, there are of course plant sales, as well as “garden tourism”. And believe it or not, the Saaremaa Peony Festival is only one of the largest selections of peonies in Estonia.

Visitors are also invited to the onsite café appropriately called “Pojeng”, which is Estonian for peony. Light food, snacks, and drinks are available during the festival. Visitors are kindly asked not to bring their pets with them.

More information is available in Estonian here, and advance tickets are available here. You can also buy tickets on site for €12.
