A Place in the Sun—the Finnish Terraces of the Old Town and Kalamaja

A new Finnish-owned bar, Juurika, opened in May in Tallinn’s Kalamaja district. Juurika’s owner, Jere Suomalainen, has invested in a cosy environment from the start. The first thing they built was a spacious terrace, where customers can enjoy drinks on sunny days. The bar has been popular with both the local working class from the Sitsi and Karjamaa districts, as well as Finnish tourists looking for an authentic atmosphere.

“The kitchen, which will serve light snacks, is still being planned. It will open soon after the kitchen renovation is complete. Currently, Juurika offers thirst-quenching drinks along with snacks, such as traditional Estonian garlic bread,” says Jere Suomalainen.

The bar is open from Wednesday to Sunday. For more information and exact opening hours, visit Juurika’s Facebook page.

Viru Street karaoke stars’ terrace

Tähtikaraoke, which turns three this year, has established itself on the popular Viru Street in Tallinn’s Old Town. The large, 60-seat terrace attracts customers to enjoy thirst-quenching drinks in the summer and, why not karaoke, which can be sung inside the bar?

The karaoke venue’s kitchen also serves food to the terrace, and the selection of summer drinks is diverse. The bar staff promise that the service is fast and friendly, so you won’t have to wait long for a refreshing drink on hot summer days. Tähtikaraoke is open every day.
