Christmas in Estonia Officially Begins This Weekend

The holiday season across Estonia officially begins this weekend with several events, concerts, fairs, markets, and Advent ceremonies. From Tallinn to Tartu, Pärnu to Kumu, you’ll find something for Christmas almost anywhere you look.

Tallinn’s beautiful and relatively new Noblessner district will have its first Advent candle-lighting ceremony on 30 November—next Sunday. The Shishi store, also located nearby, decorated the tree. If you like what you see, you can also visit the shop and stock up on wonderful decorations for your home or office.

The Balti Jaama Christmas Market will also be in full swing this weekend. The entire area will be decorated for the holiday season. You’ll find several stalls featuring seasonal, handmade goods and decorations, as well as traditional holiday foods and drinks. If you time it right, you can enjoy carol singers, and other live music. There are activities and workshops for children as well.

Christmas Jazz, part of the Jazzkaar programme that has multiple events throughout the year, will kick off on 29 November with a series of 13 concerts, starting in the Alexela Concert Hall.

Pärnu’s Christmas Time in Pärnu festivities also begin on Sunday. A slightly smaller, but no less cosy, Christmas market than the main events in Tallinn and Tartu, visitors can enjoy all the delicious and high-quality treats and snacks but with less of a crowd.

Tartu’s Christmas City also starts this weekend, with an ice rink, indoor pavilions throughout Town Hall Square, and loads of goodies and entertainment for the whole family.

And of course, the main event: the number one Christmas market in the world, right in the heart of Tallinn. This one has already started, and will continue until the end of December, but don’t forget to check it out if you haven’t already visited!
