Tartu Ski Marathon will celebrate its 50th edition this weekend

One of the oldest ski marathons in the world is set to take place in Estonia this weekend, February 17-18. The Tartu Ski Marathon, which includes 63 and 31 km races as well as relays and children’s races, is also celebrating a special anniversary this year – its 50th edition.

First held in 1960, the Tartu Ski Marathon is one of the oldest in the world. This year marks a significant anniversary for the race too, as it will be celebrating its 50th edition this year – thanks to good snow cover on the course. The what is now two-day event is also one of the biggest ski marathons in the world, with around 5000 people set to take part.

This year’s Tartu Ski Marathon will begin on Saturday (February 17) with children’s races, a vintage race over a 31 km course, as well as a relay race. The children’s race taking place at Tähtvere Sports Park in Tartu, and the other two races beginning in Arula and finishing at Tartumaa Tervisespordikeskus in Elva.

However, the main races of the weekend are the 63 and 31 km races that will take place on Sunday (February 18). Although both races finish will finish at the Tartumaa Tervisespordikeskus in Elva, the longer race will begin in Otepää and the shorter in Arula – as with the 31 km race the day before.

Registration for the races as well as more information the weekend’s event is available on the official Tartu Ski Marathon website
