The world’s best skiers arrive in Otepää

Estonia’s winter capital, Otepää, is gearing up to welcome the best cross-country skiers and ski jumpers on the planet for the next stage of the Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined World Cup. As well as world-class sport, there will also be entertainment for the whole family.

Nordic combined is an event where athletes compete in both ski jumping and cross-country skiing. The results of the ski jumping then result in time penalties for all athletes except the winner going into the cross-country ski portion of the event. The last-placed ski jumper having the biggest time penalty.

Nordic combined has been an event at the Winter Olympics since its first edition in 1924, and has had its own World Cup series since 1983 – this year is the 40th season.

Although the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup Stage in Otepää officially takes place from February 9-11, there will be training runs on February 8 which you can also attend.

As well as world-class ski jumping and skiing, there will be a whole host of other things going on including games for kids, snow building, a hot cocoa bar, and more.

Tickets for the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup Stage, at the Tehvandi Sports Centre in Otepää are still available to buy at Piletitasku. Children under the age of 11 can enter the event free of charge.
