Estonian village has a unique Christmas tradition

The small village of Väätsa, near Paide, is best known in Estonia for its captivating and unique festive tradition. Between December 5 and January 5, no less than 45 windows in the village’s community centre will be adorned with special festive displays. There will also be a Christmas market on three days, the first of which is today.

Today, December 5, at 7 pm sees the opening of the annual Väätsa Christmas windows and market. Open 24 hours a day from until January 5, the close to 45 windows of the village’s community centre will offer a magical spectacle for the whole family. Some of the window displays even have moving elements.

The enchanting festive window displays, which are unique in all of Estonia, are not all there is on offer. On three evenings, December 5, 10, and 17, there will also be a Christmas market. Here you will able to buy handmade gifts, warm yourself up with hot food and drinks, and listen to live music.

The village of Väätsa is also home to the Estonian Bicycle Museum, giving you another reason to visit.
