On Thursday, November 23, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s orchestral series I–IV under the direction of conductor Mihhail Gerts in the historic Mustapeade Maja in Tallinn’s old town. A week later, on November 30, the orchestra will return with a concert program, which includes Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 1 / Symphony No. 25.
Bach’s orchestral series I–IV was composed for the entertainment of baroque salons in the 1720s. However, despite the passing of nearly 300 years, the harmonious and universal beauty of the works remains. These pieces, which yearn to be played and heard, will be performed by the orchestra under the direction of conductor Mihhail Gerts at the historic Mustpeade Maja in Tallinn’s old town tomorrow evening, November 23.
Exactly one week later, on November 30, The Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will return to Mustpeade Maja together with the young Estonian violin virtuoso Hans Christian Aavik. The concert program includes Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 1 / Symphony No. 25. In addition to classical music, the concert also includes contemporary classical music. During the evening, the orchestra and Aavik will perform the pieces “Strum” and “Banner” by the American composer Jessie Montgomery, which were composed specifically for a string quartet and string orchestra.
The long traditions of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra
Tõnu Kaljuste founded the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra thirty years ago in 1993. The artistic directors and guest conductors of the orchestra have been both Estonian and international top musicians. Eri Klas, Risto Joost, Neeme Järvi, Kristjan Järvi, John Storgårds, Okko Kamu, Jaakko Kuusisto, and Alexander Rudin have all held the post with the orchestra.
The orchestra has become known for its style-conscious and interpretive playing. The chamber orchestra’s areas of expertise include the stylistic trends of music history, from baroque to contemporary music, especially music from the 1900s to the 2000s. The Tallinn Chamber Orchestra has performed around the world, including New York’s Carnegie Hall and Beijing’s Forbidden City Concert Hall.
Tickets for the concerts can be bought at Piletilevi.
