On Tuesday, it was confirmed that the 49th Tartu Ski Marathon will take place as planned on Sunday, February 19. Despite warm weather during the middle of this week, the organisers expect excellent track conditions on the route between Otepää and Elva.
“The ski track was still very good on the weekend, but warmer weather on Monday made me concerned. Since the snow cover was the thinnest on the Palu-Elva section, I went to check it last night. Early this morning, the course master was also present and we received confirmation that the marathon can be organised on the original track,” said Indrek Kelk, race director of the Tartu Ski Marathon.
Although snow cover is limited on some sections of the course, more is expected today (Friday) and tomorrow. “We are optimistic and all signs show that snow is coming on Friday and Saturday. In the case of a black scenario, i.e. in the event that there is no snow coming, we are also ready to cover these few hundred meters of snow-poor sections on our own,” added Kelk
As well as both the 63 and 31 km races on Sunday, February 19, children’s races will also take place on Saturday at Tähtvere Sports Park. Online registration for both the adult and children’s races are still open on the official website of the event here.
