Waste collection in Tallinn delayed because of a coronavirus outbreak

With a high number of drivers and logisticians infected with the coronavirus, the Tallinn City Council announced on Tuesday that waste collection in the city would be delayed.
“Due to the latest outbreak of the coronavirus, almost 40 per cent of waste truck drivers and loaders have fallen ill. New employees recruited to replace the ones infected are, on top of things, facing difficult weather conditions. However, residents can be sure that all their waste will be removed.” explained the City Enterprise Director, Mart Luik.
Due to the reduced number of workers, a priority will be placed on mixed municipal waste, followed by biodegradable waste (including paper and cardboard), before finally collecting mixed packaging and large waste items.
It is expected that most people will experience a delay of a few days in their waste collections, but some people may experience longer delays.
“On behalf of the waste carriers and the City of Tallinn, we apologize for the delays and hope for your understanding,” Luik stated.
