‘Melchior the Apothecary’ to premiere in USA, Japan, and Indonesia

‘Melchior the Apothecary’, which has attracted more viewers to Estonian cinemas than any other film this year, has been selected for the program of three international film festivals. The first film of the trilogy will be screened in the USA, Japan, and Indonesia in October.

Producer Tanel Tatter said that there are so many nuances in the Melchior films that the trilogy is of interest to organisers of film festivals of various genres, as well as to fans with different tastes.

“For example, the film was selected for the horror film festival in the US and the historical film festival in Japan. All this thanks to the extremely meticulous work of the film’s artists, both in creating a believable atmosphere inspired by the story, and in the art of make-up, which employs technologies never before used in Estonian cinema.”

‘Melchior the Apothecary’ will have its North American premiere this Sunday, October 16, at the Screamfest Film Festival in Los Angeles. It is one of America’s largest genre film festivals, with screenings taking place at the prestigious Hollywood Chinese Theatre on the Walk of Fame in downtown Los Angeles.

On October 13–16, ‘Melchior the Apothecary’ will also be shown in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, where the first film of the trilogy was nominated for the international festival program at Jakarta Film Week.

At the end of October, the film will premiere in Japan at the Kyoto Historical International Film Festival.

The international film distributor Global Screen will distribute the Melchior films to cinemas in other countries and present them at festivals. An agreement has also been signed with the Amazon streaming platform, which will release a mini-series based on all three parts of the trilogy for German-speaking markets next year.
