Experience Latin American culture this weekend in Tallinn

On August 31, the Kumu Courtyard Festival will invite visitors to experience Latin American culture. The festival is inspired by the current Latin American art exhibition on display in the museum’s Great Hall. Throughout the day, the festival will offer music, dance, and culinary experiences.

Visitors can enjoy performances by DJs and live bands, including DJ Jorge Hinojosa, Timuti 8 band, DJ Tropical Tallinn, and DJ Tumbaco, who will create a lively atmosphere. The music will be complemented by an array of traditional Latin American foods, provided by vendors such as Bueno Gourmet, Cachina Market, and Secret Mexican Society, who will offer everything from tacos to Brazilian sweets.

In addition to the musical and culinary delights, the festival will feature a variety of workshops and cultural activities. Visitors can participate in hands-on workshops, including piñata crafting and exploring Mexican cuisine. Some workshops will require a €5 ticket, while others are available for free. The festival will also host Fiesta Latina dance classes, both for children and adults, allowing visitors to engage with Latin American dance traditions.

The Kumu Courtyard Festival will also provide opportunities to delve deeper into Latin American art through guided tours of the exhibitions “History and Mystery: Latin American Art and Europe” and “Leonora Carrington.” For those interested in intellectual engagement, there will be a discussion on the cultural phenomenon of “Wild Rose (Rosa Salvaje)” in Estonia, as well as a film screening of “Los Exóticos” from Mexico.

The Kumu Museum and its courtyard will remain open until 9 pm for the festival, with museum tickets sold until 8:30 pm. The museum’s permanent collections and temporary exhibitions on the third to fifth floors, as well as the museum shop, will close though at  6 pm. In case of bad weather, the festival will be relocated indoors.
