A film programme dedicated to the people of Ukraine

Today, February 25, sees the beginning of a 3-day long documentary film programme that pays tribute to the people of Ukraine. The event, which is part of Tartu’s year as the European Capital of Culture, will take place at the Estonian National Museum (ERM).

For the artistic director of Tartu 2024, Kati Torp, the film programme pays tribute to the people of Ukraine. “Ukrainians fight every day for both their freedom and the values of modern Europe. I wish that the films about Ukrainian breakthroughs screened in Tartu inspire Europeans to find more and more new ways to support an independent Ukraine that belongs to modern Europe,” she stated.

The “Ukraine. Breakthrough Years” programme contains 11 films that have been carefully selected by documentary film expert Filipp Kruusvall. The film selection aims to delve into the turning points that have shaped Ukraine into such a freedom-loving country over the past decades and to outline the intellectual journey from independence to the present day. In the films screened in Tartu, we see how Ukrainians have made consistent steps and choices that have shaken off the corrupt, backward, and authoritarian past,” he explained.

Tickets for all of the films in the programme, which runs from February 25-27, are available at Piletilevi
