Rapla County Bog Days

Feeling bogged down by daily obligations, or bad opening jokes? The Rapla County Bog Days is the perfect opportunity for you to experience something so beautiful that you will feel energised for the dark months to come. It’s also a great way to explore some of Estonia’s lesser known hidden gems.

A series of guided hikes will take place on the weekend of 20–21 September. Five hikes in three different bogs are available to the public. The first hike will be in the Rabivere bog from 6:30 to 9:30 on 20 September to witness the sunrise, weather-permitting. The second hike will take place in the Aela bog from 9:00 to 14:00 of the same day. The third hike will take place in the Rabivere bog again, from 9:30 to around 13:30. The fourth hike will be in the Linnu bog from 10:00 to 15:00. The fifth and final hike will take place the next day in the Mukri bog from 11:00 to 14:00.

Participants are asked to dress according to the weather, bring snacks and something to drink, and certainly wear appropriate footwear. This could be boots or even rubber boots. All guides will have snow shoes available. Depending on which hike you choose to go on, you could enjoy breaks with tea, pancakes, or maybe even something more special!

Not all of the bogs have boardwalks. This is why appropriate footwear is so important. You might also want to bring a light, fold-up seat. It is very possible that you will see some wildlife, ranging from migrating birds, to maybe even a bear or a lynx. Take your camera with you!

More information is available in Estonian here. Pre-registration is required for all hikes.
