Estonian Environment Agency issues heavy snow warning for this evening and overnight
Text Mark Taylor
The Estonian Environment Agency has issued a level 2 “dangerous” weather warning for heavy snow and blizzard conditions for this evening and tomorrow morning.
Early this evening heavy snow and sleet is expected to begin falling on the Estonian islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. Winds are also expected to gust up to 30 m/s, creating dangerous blizzard conditions.
Late in the evening, the same conditions are expected to reach the mainland in Läänemaa, Pärnumaa, and Harjumaa. However, the winds are expected to be a little lighter with gusts reaching 20-25 m/s.
Throughout the night and into the early morning, the snow and blizzard conditions are expected to spread across the country, leaving behind 7-12 cm of snow (up to 15 cm may be possible in Southwestern Estonia).
The snow is expected to give way to sleet and rain on Thursday, leading to slippery and dangerous driving conditions.
You can follow the latest weather conditions and warnings in English on the Estonian Environment Agency website.
