Almost a million foreign tourists visited Estonia in the second quarter of 2022 – 40% came from Finland

A total of 946,554 foreign tourists visited Estonia in April, May and June of this year, according to a report by the Bank of Estonia. However, the number is still much lower than the same period in 2019, when more than 1.7 million foreign tourists visited Estonia.

376,905 Finns visited Estonia in the second quarter of 2022, making up 40 per cent of all foreign visitors to the country. The second largest group was Latvians, with 147,096 visiting Estonia or 16 per cent of all tourists. The third largest group was Germans, who numbered 56,460, or six per cent of all foreign tourists. Only 26,551 Swedes visited Estonia in April, May and June this year, or three per cent of all tourists.

About a fifth of tourists (around 20 per cent) came to Estonia from countries outside the European Union.

Despite far fewer visitors than before the coronavirus pandemic. In the second quarter of this year, the number of foreign tourists increased by more than six times compared to 2021. Showing not only a large increase on last year, but a return to normal travel from many.

Foreign tourists spent 320 million euros in Estonia in the second quarter of this year, which is 250 million euros more than in the same period last year, but 125 million euros less than in the second quarter of 2019.
