Located on Town Hall Square, Tallinn’s Christmas Market opens this Friday, 21 November, for five straight weeks of holiday cheer. Holiday foods, Christmas wares, and wintery delights treat every visitor to a fun-filled evening exploring this veritable labyrinth of seasonal beauty. Mulled wine and grilled foods topped off with elaborate gingerbread creations will keep everyone warm on these cold, wintery nights.
Voted the top Christmas market in the world last year by Christmas Tree World, you can expect a lot from this year’s event. To whet your appetite even more, Tallinn’s Christmas Market’s famous handmade truffles are back, as well! Mulled wine and other hot drinks will be available until 22:00 each night, and until 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
One thing that makes Tallinn’s Christmas Market special is how it is organised on the square—it’s not in the shape of a square, but round, as it revolves around the massive Christmas tree at the centre. This is the ideal place to take your family’s holiday photographs, because no matter where you look when standing at the tree, you are surrounded by medieval architecture. With any luck there will be snowfall when you visit, which only enhances the overall experience.
Old Saint Nick—Santa Claus himself—often visits, and even has his own building for children to visit him in. There is often live holiday music on the stage as well, so it will definitely be worth visiting this market multiple times.
