In the 2nd quarter of 2022 1.55 million passengers travelled with Tallink ferries, which is 262.9% more than at the same time last year. However, the figure for the same period in 2019 was 2.65 million passengers.
According to data from Tallink, in June alone, 600,000 passengers travelled with Tallink on one of its three routes (Estonia-Finland, Finland-Sweden, Estonia-Sweden). Although this is nearly three times higher than in June 2021, more than 1 million passengers travelled with Tallink in June 2019.
The Estonia – Finland route still remains the most popular route for Tallink, with passengers accounting for more than half of all Tallink ferry passengers. Passenger numbers on the route have risen 94 per cent on last year’s figures. The second most common route is the Finland-Sweden route, which saw a 389.1 per cent rise. The Estonia-Sweden route saw the highest yearly rise, up by 1448 per cent. However, this is due to extremely low passenger numbers last year.
Although passenger numbers are still some way off pre-pandemic levels, Tallink is recording higher volumes of freight transport than before the pandemic. In the first quarter of 2022, the volume of freight was 109,380 units, which is almost a fifth more than a year ago and 10% more than in 2019.
