Jäääär in concert for the last time

Jäääär, whose name means “the edge of the ice”, are at the edge of their live music careers. Formed in 1991, the multiple award-winning band has released nearly 20 studio albums, and their concerts number in the thousands. Their self-described style of music, “urban folk”, came to life in Tartu in response to the deluge of electronic music from the 80s and early 90s.

The band’s original lineup consists of Jaan Sööt, Tarvo Jaaksoo, Tõnu Tiim, and Teet Velling, and other Estonian greats such as Riho Sibul have also joined their ranks. They have also been closely associated with other ensembles, such as Jääboiler and InBoiler.

As quoted on the concerts’ official event pages, the band says, “The circle is full, life goes on, and people change. The mark we left is apparent, it has stood the test of time.” While these last two live concerts will be the end of their ice age, fans can certainly expect more from the individual members of one of Estonia’s greatest bands. For now, “These songs will only be available on the newly minted double vinyl”, even though their music is also widely available on Spotify and other platforms.

Tickets for Jäääär’s farewell concert in Tallinn are sold out, but tickets for their very last concert, on 29 March in the Vanemuine Concert Hall in Tartu, are available here.
