DocPoint Tallinn to premiere four new Estonian documentaries

From February 4 to 9, the DocPoint Tallinn documentary film festival will present the premieres of four Estonian documentaries that explore local history and key cultural figures. These films focus on various periods, offering insightful perspectives on significant events and individuals who shaped Estonia’s cultural identity and history.

Madis Ligema’s portrait film Sal-Saller: See on see, mis paneb elama (“Sal-Saller: It’s what makes you live” in English) tells the story of rock star Hendrik Sal-Saller through archival footage. Päikese kodanik (Citizen of the Sun in English), by director Riho Västrik, centres on musicians Tarmo and Toomas Urb and their struggle to break free from the Soviet system in the 1980s.

Peeter Brambat and Liina Keevallik’s Lindprii explores the life and work of director Vladimir-Georg Karasjov-Orgusaare, focusing on his 1971 film Lindpriid and its difficult production process. Kiur Aarma and Jaak Kilmi’s Lahkumine Tallinnast. 1941 highlights the 1941 Battle of Juminda, one of Estonia’s largest naval confrontations, using rare archival materials.

The festival, a collaboration with Helsinki DocPoint, will be held in cinemas in Tallinn and Tartu. More information about the full event programme is available on the official DocPoint webpage.
