World-renowned Estonian contemporary composer Arvo Pärt’s most famous pieces will be performed at two church concerts in Estonia this week. The concert Sacred Minimalism will take place on Friday, November 22, in Tartu and Sunday, November 24, in Tallinn.
Arvo Pärt (born 1935) is an Estonian composer whose music is recognised globally. In September 2024, he was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal by the Royal Philharmonic Society for nearly 70 years of compositional work. Previous recipients of the RPS Gold Medal include composers such as Johannes Brahms, Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky, Benjamin Britten, Leonard Bernstein, and Sofia Gubaidulina.
He is best known for his distinctive and unmistakable compositional style known as Tintinnabuli, which has been described as modern spiritual music.
The Sacred Minimalism concerts will feature some of Pärt’s most famous works, including Für Alina, Spiegel im Spiegel, and Fratres. The concerts will be performed by pianist Auli Teppo and violinist Katariina Maria Kits-Reimal, with choral accompaniment by Lilia Märtmaa and Denis Vinogradov.
Tickets for the concerts can be purchased from Piletilevi.
