Alpacas for Christmas?
Text Stewart Johnson Photo Visit Estonia
Pärnu County’s alpaca farm is holding a public event on 13–14 December to coincide with the holidays. Visitors can attend from 11:00 to 18:00 on both days, and interact with the South American animals. This won’t just be a petting zoo though, as local vendors will set up shop so visitors will have a wide selection of handicrafts, foods, and drinks to choose from.
The entire farm has been decorated for the holidays, with thousands of lights shining throughout. Alpacas, known for being fairly intelligent pack animals that can actually communicate with body language and humming sounds, are sure to enjoy the festive atmosphere as well.
Known for their incredibly soft fleeces, alpacas are friendly animals closely related to llamas, though slightly smaller. Children love them for their full, fluffy faces. If you or your child would like to be photographed with an alpaca, there will be a photographer on site.
Enjoy the Are Meierei Café if you would like a snack or more. There will also be a fire for roasting sausages and marshmallows. If you manage to get cold, don’t worry: the alpaca farm’s shop will be open, which sells extremely warm clothing made from the alpacas themselves.
More information about the alpaca farm as well as what’s available online and in their shop can be found here.
