Last Summer, the Number of Estonian Tourists in Tallinn Doubled

During the three summer months, a total of 217,000 guests stayed in Tallinn’s accommodation establishments, which was about ten per cent more than in summer 2020. Of these, 61 per cent were foreign visitors and 39 per cent Estonian tourists.

The number of foreign tourists decreased

Compared to the summer of 2020, there were 15 per cent fewer foreign tourists this year, while the number of Estonian tourists doubled.

Although the number of tourists in Tallinn increased in the summer compared to last year, the increase in the number of Estonian tourists did not offset the significant decrease in the number of foreign tourists during the past year and a half.

Last summer, 63 per cent fewer guests stayed in accommodation establishments than in the summer of 2019.

During the three summer months, a total of 132,900 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments.

The largest number of foreign tourists to Tallinn came from Finland (31,300), Latvia (12,500) and Germany (11,500).

Although Finns accounted for the largest share of foreign tourists visiting Tallinn in the summer months (24 per cent), there were 65 per cent fewer Finns than in 2020. The biggest obstacle to travelling between Finland and Estonia was strict infection rate restrictions.

Estonian tourists found Tallinn

This summer, a total of 84,100 Estonians stayed in accommodation establishments in Tallinn, which is 92 per cent or 40,300 more visitors than in the summer of 2020. In fact, there were a third more Estonian tourists in Tallinn than in the summer of 2019.
