A Culinary Journey Through Estonia Begins at the Farms

Products from Estonian farms can be found in all major grocery chains in Estonia. Rimi has a dedicated “Talu toidab”, or “The Farm Feeds”, shelf for local farm goods. The Taluturg stores, specialising in Estonian farm products, can be found in Tartu, Pärnu, and Tallinn. This year’s nationwide “Open Farm Days” event takes place on 12–13 July, offering an excellent opportunity to explore and taste local food products. More info: avatudtalud.ee.

A Culinary Journey Through Estonia Begins at the Farms

Süvahavva Herbal Products

Estonians have traditionally relied on herbs for health and healing. Products from Süvahavva Loodustalu are sold mainly in organic shops, such as Ökosahver, Looduspere, and Bio4You in Tallinn. Herbs are grown organically to preserve their natural properties.

Lemna Jams

Lemna’s jams pair perfectly with cheese. The producer also offers flavoured mustards and sauces made with ingredients like chilli, paprika, tomato, onion, garlic, apple, blackcurrant, and horseradish. Products are available on the Uma Mekkwebsite and at Tillu Café in Põlva.

Murimäe Wines

At Murimäe Veinikelder, wines are made from berries, grapes, and fruits. The selection includes wines, liqueurs, and spirits, all available at the vineyard or via their online shop.

Andri-Peedo Goat Dairy Products

Andri-Peedo offers goat milk, yogurt, and cheeses, available at major retailers like Kaubamaja, Selver, and Rimi. Products can also be ordered from the farm’s own webshop.

Käbliku Craft Beers

Käbliku Brewery offers nearly 30 varieties of craft beer. Available at Kaubamaja, from the brewery in Põlvamaa, or via their online store. You can also sample their beers at Pizza Ihamaru in Tartu or at the brewery’s own pizza and beer cellar in Põlva.

Seto Taar Homemade Kvass

This dark, fermented, alcohol-free kvass is made according to Seto traditions by Uma Tettü. Their online store also offers Estonian plant and berry-based lemonades, blackcurrant juice, non-alcoholic cocktails, and mulled drinks. The family business is run on a farm in Vasla that’s been in the family for seven generations.

Mooska Farm Smoked Meats

Famous among sauna lovers, Mooska Farm is also known for its highly regarded smoked meats. You can order their products via the farm’s webshop.

Viinamärdi Cheeses

Of all Estonian cheesemakers, Viinamärdi is the most Italian in style. Near Tartu, this dairy produces yogurts and cheeses from sheep’s and cow’s milk—everything from ricotta and burrata to mozzarella, blue cheeses, and semi-hard varieties. Products are available at many Selver stores and from Rimi’s “Talu toidab” shelves. A full list of retailers is available on the dairy’s website.
