Now you can cruise around Tallinn with a moped rental

Starting this week, a company called Ride Mobility, from Latvia, will begin offering moped rentals in Tallinn. Electric mopeds are especially useful for short trips, such as from the port to the Old Town, or between attractions. The app is easy to use, and payment can be made directly from your mobile device, making the service hassle-free.

While the city welcomes new mobility solutions, the importance of clear safety rules needs to be stressed. Tallinn Deputy Mayor Kristjan Järvan emphasises that the introduction of new types of vehicles must be done responsibly. “We do not restrict the activities of new service providers, but we do require them to be responsible, and follow traffic rules,” Järvan says.

A major concern is the use of mopeds on sidewalks, which is prohibited under the Estonian Traffic Act. The service provider must ensure that users understand and comply with this law. In addition, the insurance obligation for mopeds as well as the regulations for the use of helmets require clarification.

What are the requirements for renting a Ride Mobility moped?

Users must be at least 18 years old to drive a moped, and each vehicle is intended for one person only. The maximum permitted speed is 25 km/h, and riding on sidewalks is strictly prohibited. Parking rules correspond to those for light electric vehicles and bicycles, but mopeds must be walked when parking on a sidewalk. The Ride Mobility app can be downloaded from https://ridemobility.eu/.
