Traditional orchid exhibition to open at Tallinn Botanical Garden on Friday

On Friday, March 3, the traditional yearly orchid exhibition will open at the Tallinn Botanical Garden, where you can see rare flowers growing in their natural environment. At the exhibition, it will also be possible to buy orchids and turn to experts for advice.

Along with the familiar phalaenopsis, many other tropical orchids will be presented, such as paphiopedilums, vandas, cymbidiums, epidendrums, dendrobiums, masdevallias, and oncidiums, along with varieties and hybrids created by breeders.

As part of the exhibition, visitors will be able to get advice on growing orchids at home from experienced specialists. During the orchid exhibition, questions related to the cultivation of orchids can also be sent to the email address, orhidee@botaanikaaed.ee.

The orchids on display range in size from the head of a pin to the palm of the hand and in colour from pure white to black. “The orchids are so peculiar that sometimes it seems as if, in creating them, nature has not been able to curb its imagination. And yet, there is nothing accidental in an orchid – the tiniest detail has a specific purpose and reason for its occurrence,” said Eevi Siibak, senior gardener of the botanical garden and curator of the orchid collection.

The orchid exhibition will open in the Palm House of Tallinn Botanical Garden between March 3 and 12. Entrance to the exhibition is possible with a regular ticket to the botanical garden.
