Tallinn’s Wandering Lights Festival begins today

One of the most popular autumn events in Tallinn is the Wandering Lights Festival. The event, which is organised every September, has spread from its home in Kadriorg Park, with events now taking place all over the city.

This year, the theme of the event is “Öös on lugusid”, which translates as stories of the night.

There will be light events in Kadriorg park, Pae park, Tallinn’s old town and Männi park in Mustamäe.

The city will be filled with wonderful light installations, candles and torches. Various concerts and performances will also take place.

Storytelling is an ancient tradition of mankind. Before, pictures were painted on the walls of the caves and stories were told with them. By telling stories, experiences and information important for the continuation of life were passed on.

The organisers of the light festival want to take this spirit of the past and tell stories together with the audience using light and music.

During the festival, thousands of candles and other lights are lit to show visitors the way and create a magical and light-filled journey.

Wandering Lights Festival venues and times:

  • 15 September Pae Park, 8-11 p.m.
  • 15–16 September, Kadriorg Park, 8-11 p.m.
  • 16–17 September, Old Town, 8–11 p.m.
  • September 17, Männi park in Mustamäe, 8–11 p.m.

During the event, there will be a lot of people moving around the city, so getting to the parks with your car may be difficult.

You can find a full programme of the events taking place here. However, the page is only available in Estonian.
