About 5,000 people visited Tallinn City Museums during the first free museum Sunday on March 6.
Museum Sunday is the first Sunday of each month, and grants free access to museums run by the City of Tallinn. The next free museum Sunday is April 3, 2022.
The interest in free museum visits was clearly higher than expected. Up to ten times more people visited Tallinn City Museums compared to a regular Sunday. A total of about 5,000 guests visited Tallinn City Museums on Sunday March 6.
According to the City Museum, the number of visitors was the same as on Museum Night in 2019. However, this also meant that the occupancy rate of the exhibition spaces was at the extreme limit of their capacity in some places.
Initially, Museum Sunday is only for museums run by the City of Tallinn, but the city also encourages other museums in Tallinn to participate in the Museum Sunday program.
Tallinn City Museums have seven museums in operation during the winter.
