Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas: “Coronavirus restrictions could be lifted as early as next week”

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has announced that the government is likely to lift coronavirus restrictions next week. This will mean the phasing out of the covid passport and removing the opening hours restrictions on restaurants, bars and clubs. Only the mask mandate will remain in place.

The Estonian government has said that when the ten-day average number of covid-19 patients requiring hospitalisation is less than 25, restrictions can be lifted. In the last ten days, an average of 31 covid-19 patients have been hospitalised.

Although the number of covid infections increased hugely over the past few months as a result of the omicron strain, the workload of hospitals has not increased significantly. There are currently 19 patients in intensive care.

In Estonia, the lives of those who have received a full series of vaccines are almost normal because the coronavirus passport allows entry to any place. Vaccination certificates from other countries also act as a covid passport in Estonia.

More detailed information on the corona situation in Estonia is available on the coronavirus website. According to the Estonian Health Board, 63.2 per cent of Estonians have received a full series of vaccinations.
