Petrol reaches record high prices in Estonia
Text and photo Timo Huttunen

In Estonia, 98-octane petrol already costs more than 1.7 euros per litre in some places. The price is a record high. A litre of 95-octane petrol now costs about 1.65 euros. The price of diesel is about 1.50 euros per litre.
The price of 1.7 euros for a litre of 98-octane petrol is about 10 cents more than in Riga and 8.5 cents more than in Vilnius. However, the prices are still considerably cheaper than in Finland, where petrol already costs more than 2 euros per litre.
The increased cost of petrol comes at a time when the price of electricity has also risen sharply. The rise in the price of electricity has hit consumers who have entered into an electricity contract tied to the stock exchange price particularly hard.
In Estonia, municipalities have supported households that have experienced problems with rising electricity prices. About 12,000 households have received direct support for their energy bills. The average amount of support given has been around € 100.
